Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has hired Mark Lingafelter as president of its Australasia business.

Lingafelter joins from QBE, where he was most recently chief underwriting officer for Asia Pacific, and will replace Chris Colahan, who is set to become the president of the Berkshire’s specialty insurance operation in the UK and Europe.

“With more than 30 years of experience in the global insurance market, [Lingafelter] is well qualified to lead our ongoing profitable growth in Australia and New Zealand,” said Peter Eastwood, BHSI’s president and chief executive.

Before QBE, Lingafelter spent more than 11 years as managing director at Chubb Insurance in Australia. He will be based in the firm’s Sydney office.

Colahan joined BHSI in February 2015, previously serving as the chief executive officer of Asia and Hong Kong for RSA Insurance. He will be based in London.
